娱乐英语新闻:Mexican director Guillermo del Toro gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame here on Tuesday, during which he encouraged immigrants to reject fear in the United States.
"As a Mexican, receiving this star is a gesture," said del Toro, 54, at a ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard three days after the El Paso mass shootings, telling the crowd that "great fear" was being used to divide people, but "those divisions are complete fantasies."
"No gesture right now can be banal or simple," he added, noting that all immigrants from every nation should believe in the possibilities in life, not the obstacles.
The Mexican director is best known for creating dark fairy tales for his fantasy dramas. His most recent film "The Shape of Water" won big at the 90th Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. His work in Spanish language,"Pan’s Labyrinth", won three Academy Awards in 2007.
"Guillermo del Toro is a director with one of the most creative and vivid imaginations. He has his pulse on a realm of fantasy that has captivated and astounded audiences," said Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor him for his historic film work," Martinez added.
The star of Del Toro is the 2,669th along the iconic walkway in the category of motion pictures.
