《仲夏夜之》该剧创作于16世纪90年代，正是英国历史上伊丽莎白女王统治时期。这一时期政权相对巩固，社会比较稳定，资本主义经济迅速发展，英国文艺复兴运动和人文主义运动也进入繁荣昌盛阶段。

　　第一幕第一场 (城中)

　　旁白：There was a law in the city of Athens which gave to its citizens the power of forcing their daughters to marry whomever they pleased. For if a daughter refused to marry the man her father had chosen to be her husband, the father might by thus law cause her to be put to death.

　　在雅典有一条法律赋予市民权力，可以强迫他们的女儿嫁给他们所喜欢的人，因此如果女儿拒绝父亲为她选的丈夫，依据这条法律，父亲可以自行判她死刑。

　　Egeus: Hermia, you have to marry Demetrious, the best guy in the city.

　　荷米亚，你必须嫁给狄米崔斯，这城中最好的年轻人。

　　Hermia: I’m sorry, Dad! I can’t be his wife.

　　爸爸，抱歉。我不能成为他的妻子。

　　Egeus: Why do you refused to marry Demetrius? He is really a worthy gentleman!

　　你为什麼拒绝嫁给狄米崔斯呢?他是一个真正的绅士。

　　Hermia: But I don’t love him. I’ve fell in love with Lysander.

　　但是我不爱他。我已经爱上了莱赛德。

　　Egeus: Lysander? Is he better than Demetrious? No!

　　莱赛德?他会比狄米崔斯好吗?不!

　　Hermia: Oh! Dad! Demettrious had ever said that he love my friend, Helena, and she, a sweet lady also love him deeply.

　　喔!爸爸，狄米崔斯曾说过，他爱我的朋友——海伦娜，而这一个甜美女孩也深爱狄米崔斯。

　　Egeus: No matter what you say, I’ve decided to let you marry to Demetrious. I stick to do this! 不管你怎麼说!我已经决定让你嫁给狄米崔斯了，我坚决这样做。

　　Hermia: I won’t give my heart to the person who I never like.

　　我不愿把我的心交给一个我不曾喜欢的人。

　　Egeus: If you don’t marry Demetrious, I’ll use the ancient right of Athens, asking to put you to death according to our law! (下)

　　如果你不嫁给狄米崔斯，根据我们的法律，我将用雅典的古律法要求判你死刑。 Hermia: Oh! Please, please do not! My dear father! Don’t you love me any more? Don’t give me up, please!

　　喔，不要，请不要这麼做，亲爱的父亲，你不再爱我了吗?请不要放弃我。 Lysander上场

　　Lysander: Sweet Hermia, my love! What’s going wrong? Let me wipe your heart-breaking tears! 亲爱的荷米亚，我的爱人，怎麼回事?让我擦掉你那心碎的眼泪。

　　Hermia: My father said that unless I marry Demetrious, or he’ll be put me to death! What can I do? 我爸爸说，除非我嫁给狄米崔斯，否则他将处死我，我该怎麼办?

　　Lysander: Fear not and hear me. Tomorrow night, I’ll wait for you in the wood a few miles outside the city. If you really love me, getting far away this sad city with me.

　　不要害怕并听我说，明天晚上，我将在城外几哩的树林里等你，如果你真的爱我，就和我一起逃离这伤心的城市吧。

　　Hermia: I will because I love you so.

　　我会的，因为我如此爱你。

　　Lysander: Keep promise, love. Here comes Helena and I have to go. See you tomorrow night! (下) 一言为定，爱人。海伦娜来了，我必须走了，明晚见。

　　Helena上场

　　Helena: Hello! Hermia.

　　嗨，荷米亚。

　　Hermia: I’m so glad to see you, my friend!

　　我很高兴见到你，我的朋友。

　　Helena: But Demetrious love you. Oh, tech me how to attract his eyes, please?

　　但是狄米崔斯爱的是你，请教我如何吸引他的目光吧?

　　Hermia: Take comfort, he no more shall see my face. Tomorrow night Lysander and myself will fly this place. We’ll meet in the wood. Please pray for us and don’t tell others, good-bye! (下)

　　放心吧，他再也不会看见我的脸了，明晚莱赛德和我将要逃离此地，我们相约在森林里见面，请你为我们祈祷，并且不要告诉其他人，再见。

　　Helena: I will go tell Demetrious of fair Hermia’s flight, and then he’ll pursue her. I just want to have his sight again. (下)

　　我要去告诉狄米崔斯,美丽的荷米亚将要离开，然後他将会去追寻她，而我只是想再看见他的容貌。

　　第二幕第一场 (森林中)

　　口白：

　　The wood was a favorite meeting-place of those little, beings known by the name of fairies. Between this little king and green of spirits there happened, at this time, a sad disagreement. 这个树林是精灵最喜欢的聚会地点，可是仙王和仙后此时发生了严重的争吵。 Oberon: I’ll meet by moonlight, proud Titania.

　　真不巧又在月光下遇见你，傲慢的泰妲妮亚。

　　Titania: What, jealous Oberon! Fairies, run hence; I have left his company.

　　嘿，嫉妒的欧波隆，小精灵们，快跑。我已经离开他的同伴了。

　　Oberon: Wait, foolish fairy, why do you oppose me so? Give me that little boy to be my slave. 等一等，傻精灵，你为什麼要违抗我?让那个小男孩当我的奴隶。

　　Titania: Set your heart at rest, your whole fairy kingdom will not buy the boy from me. (下) 别想，你就是用整个精灵王国也买不到这个小男孩。

　　Oberon: Well, go your way. Before the morning dawns, I will make you suffer for this injury. Come here, my gentle Puck.

　　好，你走吧，在黎明之前，我一定要为这侮辱惩罚你。我的好派克，过来。 Puck: I’m here, my lord.

　　我在这儿，我的主人。

　　Oberon: Fetch me the flower which maids call Love in Idleness; the juice of that little purple flower, laid on the eyelids of those who sleep, will make them, when they awake, love madly the first thing they see. And before I will take this charm from off her sight, which I can do with another charm I know of, I will make her give that boy to be my slave.

　　替我把少女们称做``枉费之爱``的花拿来，一旦将那紫色小花的汁液滴在睡眠者的眼皮上，当他们醒来时，便会疯狂的爱上所看到的第一件东西。在解除这魔法之前，我要让那个小男孩当我的奴隶。

　　Puck: I’ll do that very well. Believe me. (下)

　　我会办好这事的，相信我。

　　Oberon: But who comes here? I am invisible. And I will overhear their conference.

　　可是谁到这儿来啦?他们看不见我，让我听一听他们说些什麼。

　　Demetrious和 Helena 上

　　Demetrious: I don’t love you at all, so you don’t pursue me. Where are Lysander and fair Hermia? You told me they are there, but I can’t meet my Hermia. Go away and follow me no more.

　　我不爱你，所以别跟著我，莱赛德和美丽的荷米亚在那儿?你告诉我，他们在这里，但是我找不到我的荷米亚。快走，不许再跟著我。

　　Helena: You draw me, you hard-hearted adamant.

　　是你吸引我的，你这硬心肠的磁石。

　　Demetrious: Do I speak you fair? Tell you, I do not, nor I cannot love you.

　　我曾经向你说过好话吗?告诉你，我不爱你，而且也不会爱你。

　　Helena: And even for that do I love you the more. Please let me follow you even I am like your dog.

　　即使这样，也只是使我更爱你。请让我跟著你,那怕我像是你的狗。

　　Demetrious: I am sick when I do look on you!

　　我一看见你就头痛。

　　Helena: And I am sick when I look not on you.

　　可是我看不到你就心痛。

　　Demetrious: Let me go. Cause I’m so hate you! (下)

　　让我走，因为我是这麼的讨厌你。

　　Helena: Don’t leave me alone. Please stay, though you kill me. (下)

　　不要离开我，请留下吧，就算你杀了我。

　　Oberon: The poor girl! I have to help her. Welcome, wanderer, has you get the flower? (Puck上) 可怜的女孩，我得帮助她。欢迎啊，浪游者，你把花采来了吗?

　　Puck: Ay, there it is.

　　是的，就在这儿。

　　Oberon: Thank you, my cute spirit. Take a part of this flower: there has been a sweet lady here, who is in love with a cruel youth. If you find him sleeping, drop some of the love-juice in his eyes. But see that you do it when he awakes maybe this lady. You will know the man by the Athenian garments he wears.

　　谢谢，我可爱的精灵，拿走一些花，这里有一位甜美的少女爱上了冷酷的年轻人。如果你发现他睡著了，就把爱情的汁液滴进他的眼睛里，但是，一定要确定他醒来时就看到那少女。你可以由他穿的雅典服饰认出他。

　　Puck: Don’t worry, my lord, your servant shall do so. (两人同下)

　　放心吧，主人，一切将如你所愿。

　　第二幕第二场 (仙后的寝宫)

　　仙女们忙著做事，此时仙后进来

　　Titania: Fairies, sing me now asleep; then to your offices and let me rest. (睡)

　　精灵们，在我沉睡之前唱首歌，然後，各做各的事，让我休息一会儿。

　　仙女唱歌跳舞然後散去;仙王上

　　Oberon: What you see when you do you awake, do it for your true love take. Love and languish for his sake. (下)

　　当你醒来时所看到的就是你的真爱，并为他担起相思债。

　　第三幕第一场 (森林的另一处)

　　Lysander: Fair love, you faint with wandering in the wood; if you think it good, and tarry for the comfort of the day.

　　好人，你在树林中跋涉著，累得快要昏倒了，要是你同意，让我们休息一下吧。 Hermia: Be it so, Lysander. Good night, sweet lover.

　　就照你的意思吧，莱赛德。，爱人。

　　Lysander: I wish sleep give you all his rest!

　　愿睡眠给你充分的休养。

　　Hermia: I will share with you.

　　我愿与你分享。

　　两人同睡，Puck上

　　Puck: Ah! Who is here? This is he, the cruel youth. And she is the lady. Pretty soul! She durst not lie near this lack-love. Churl, I’ll drop the love-juice in your eyes. Hey! It’s so funny! (下)

　　啊，谁在这儿?这是那残酷的年轻人，而她就是那个女孩。美丽的人儿，她竟然不敢睡近这没心肝的恶汉。坏东西，我将在你的眼精滴进爱情的花液。嘿，真有趣。 Helena上

　　Helena: I am out of breath in the fond chase! The more my prayer, the lesser is my grace. Who is lying on the ground? Oh! He is Lysander! Is he dead or asleep? Good sir, if you are alive, awake. 这痴心的追赶使我累得喘不过气来，我愈是祈求，却愈惹他讨厌。是谁躺在地上?喔，是莱赛德，他是死了还是睡著了?好先生，如果你还活著，就醒醒吧。

　　Lysander: What a pretty beauty! Helena, I would through fire for your sweet sake.

　　多漂亮的美女，海伦娜，我愿为你赴汤蹈火。

　　Helena: Do not say so, Lysander. Don’t you love Hermia?

　　别这麼说，莱赛德。你不爱荷米亚吗?

　　Lysander: I don’t love her at all. For me, she is just a black raven, and you are a white dove. 我一点也不爱她，对我而言，她只是只乌鸦，而你是只白鸽。

　　Helena: Oh! Why was I born to be mocked and though nothing of by everyone? Is it not enough, young man? That a lady, of one man refused, should of another be so abused! (下)

　　喔，为什麼我生下来就被每个人嘲笑，而不被尊重?年轻人，这还不够吗? 一个女子被一个男人拒绝，还得忍受另一个男人的揶揄。

　　Lysander: All my power, address your love and might to honor Helena and to be her knight! (下) 我的一切生命之力啊，用爱和力来尊崇海伦娜，做她忠实的武士吧。

　　Hermia醒

　　Hermia: Lysander! Lysander! Where do you go? No sound? No word! If you hear me, please talk to me! I swoon almost with fear. But, where do you go?

　　莱赛德!莱赛德!你去那儿了?没有回音，不说一句话?如果你听得到，请回答我，我快因害怕而昏倒了，但你去那儿了?

　　Demetrious上

　　Demetrious: you are here, my dear Hermia! I found you for a long time.

　　你在这里，我亲爱的荷米亚，我找你找了好久。

　　Hermia: Do you see my Lysander?

　　你看见我的莱赛德了吗?

　　Demetrious: who care? I would like to give his carcass to my hounds.

　　谁在乎?我宁愿把他的屍体餵我的猎犬。

　　Hermia: Out, dog! Do you really kill him? You are a devil!

　　滚开，恶狗!你真的杀了他吗?你这个恶魔。

　　Demetrious: Don’t be angry! You know, I don’t kill him.

　　别生气，你知道的，我并没有杀他。

　　Hermia: I won’t believe you at all! Lysander, I’m sure I will find you! (下)

　　我一点都不相信你!莱赛德，我确定我会找到你的。

　　Demetrious: She is so angry. I’d better stop following her. I have to take a rest. To night is too tired! (睡)

　　她是如此生气，我最好停止跟随她。我必须休息一下，今晚实在太累了。

　　Oberon和Puck 上

　　Oberon: Did you finish your work, Puck?

　　派克，你的工作做完了吗?

　　Puck: Sure, I did. And the woman is by his side: when he waked, of course she must be eyed. 是的，而且那女人就在他的身边，当然，在他醒来时，她会被发现。

　　Oberon: Hey! He is there! What did you do? Why does the cruel man still sleep here? You must made mistake!

　　嘿!他在那儿，你到底做了什麼?为什麼那个冷酷的年轻人还睡在那儿?你一定是弄错了。

　　Puck: Did I? Oh, I’m sorry.

　　是吗?喔，对不起。

　　Oberon: It’s ok，now you can finish it. Just be careful, do not make mistake again.

　　没关系，现在你可以完成这件事。要小心一点，不要再犯错了。

　　Puck重新点上花液 ，Bottom上

　　Bottom: Oh! I lost my way.

　　喔，我迷路了。

　　Oberon: This fellow shall be my Titania’s true love.

　　这个乡人可以成为我泰妲妮亚的真爱。
